This fall marks a significant turn in my aviation journey—I’ve rejoined the Penn Yan Flying Club and not just as a member, but also as part of the leadership team. After a brief hiatus from flying, I reapplied for membership and was warmly welcomed back at the club’s annual September dinner meeting. This reentry into the club is not just about flying; it’s about immersing myself back into a community that shares my passion for aviation.

During the dinner, an opportunity arose that I couldn’t pass up—I was nominated and elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the “Member Accounts” position. This role offers a fantastic chance to contribute more significantly to the club’s operations and direction.

Soon after, another door opened when the General Manager of the club announced his resignation. Seeing a perfect alignment with my skills and the needs of the club, I applied for the General Manager position. After a rigorous interview with a committee of four, I was thrilled to receive a call the next morning from the club president offering me the job—a role I accepted without hesitation.

As I navigate my responsibilities both as a board member and as General Manager, there’s a lot to learn and organize. The coming weeks will be filled with one-on-one training and knowledge transfer sessions, which I am eagerly anticipating. Although the learning curve is steep and my head is still spinning from all the new information, I am confident that establishing a routine will bring everything into focus.

For now, I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend at Lake Piseco, where I can reflect on these changes and recharge before diving back into the bustling world of the flying club.
